Château du Méjanel

The Château du Méjanel is a castle located in the commune of Recoules-Previnquières in the department of Aveyron in the Occitanie region of France. It has been listed as historic monuments since 17 June 1991. It has an interest in history and art, due to the preservation up to the present day of architectural characters and defences specific to the Renaissance "pares".

Built with limestone and dolomitic materials from the secondary (Lias) outcropping nearby, it fits perfectly, as well as the old houses of the hamlet that surround it, in the landscape of this border of the causse de Séverac. This harmony comes from the intuitive use by 16th century builders of materials available in their immediate environment; Moreover, these manufacturers avoided the long-distance transport of a large pile of stones, at a time when the means of transport (charrois) were still primitive.
