Lamoricière cenotaph

The cenotaph of General de La Moricière (1806-1865) was a funerary work installed and inaugurated in Nantes in 1879 in the cathedral of Saint Pierre and Saint Paul. This monumental work is prepared under the action of Bishop Alexander Jaquemet, with the support of Pope Pius IX, as a testimony of gratitude for services rendered to the papacy. At the end of his life, the General had participated in the defence of the Holy See, threatened by the Italian political turmoil of the 1860s.

His grave is located in Saint-Philbert-de-Grand-Lieu, from where his family was native. The book is classified as Historical Monuments.
