About

The dolmen of the tip of the Torche, also called tumulus of Beg in Dorchenn, rises on a natural eminence overlooking the bay of Audierne, on the peninsula known as the tip of the Torche (unsuitably translated from Breton Beg an Dorchenn), in Plomeur, commune of Bigouden country, in Finistère, Brittany. It consists of two superimposed cairns containing two megalithic monuments: a corridor dolmen with a compartmentalized chamber dated from the Middle Neolithic and a covered aisle, which extends on the eastern slope the corridor of the dolmen, dated from the Final Neolithic. Bones found in the dolmen are dated from 4500 to 4090 B.C.E. The peninsula has been listed as a historic monument since 1960 and is part of a natural site classified since 1989.
