ensemble castral de Vèvre
The castral ensemble of Vesvre (or Vèvre) is a complex of fortified buildings in the commune of Neuvy-Deux-Clochers, in the French department of Cher, in the central region of Loire. It occupies a central position in the Berrichonne natural region of Pays-Fort. It is built in several phases and modified repeatedly between the 9th and 16th centuries, and even until the 18th century, taking into account the buildings of a farm that was later grafted there; It is inhabited continuously until the French Revolution.
Its history and architecture bear witness to the will of the elite to control its territory and the strategic roads that border it. The most prominent element is a tower measuring 21 × 15 m at a height of 27 m, built at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries. It has been restored in several stages since the end of the 20th century, which is an opportunity to study it in more detail (archeological surveys and excavations, study of the building) and presented to the public.
Its remains are protected as historical monuments in 1991 and 2008.
