The fountain of Joyeuse, sometimes called the Saint-Louis fountain, is a Parisian fountain located at 41 rue de Turenne, in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris. It has been listed as historic monuments since 6 March 1925.
History: This fountain replaces a fountain that was at the same location behind Marc Miron's hotel, built around 1580 and now gone. This fountain was built in 1687 and was already known as Joyeuse. It was replaced in 1847 by the current fountain, fed by the Ourcq Canal, which was part of a program of the City of Paris establishing public fountains to provide water to the busy Faubourg Saint-Antoine district. There are several fountains built at the same time and of a very comparable aspect, such as the fountain of the Roquette (1847), or the fountain of Saint-Eugenie, which is now destroyed. The fountain of Joyeuse is decorated by sculptor Isidore-Romain Boitel (1812-1860). The fountain was restored in 2008 and illuminated in the evening, but the interior is no longer accessible.
