The Fountain de la Coquille is a fountain located in Villers-Cotterêts, France.
Description: The Fountain de la Coquille de Villers-Cotterêts represents the head, front legs and wings of a fabulous animal, seen from the front, framed with dolphins and surmounted by a huge shell lined with foliage.
Location: The fountain is located in the commune of Villers-Cotterêts, in the department of Aisne, at the intersection of Rue Demoustier and Rue Tronchet.
History: This fountain was executed by the sculptor Charles Gilbert in 1872, replacing a fountain of 1833; It stopped supplying water to the city in 1929 (information provided by historical works). Its human head was replaced by a fabulous animal head in the 20th century. The monument was listed as historical monuments in 1932.
