Fountain
fontaine de la Plomée
La Fontaine de la Plomee is a fountain located in Guingamp at the top of the Place du centre, at the intersection of Notre Dame Street and Henry Kerfant Street. The term Plemée comes from the word Breton plomenn meaning "pump, fountain" and locally "source". The fountain was classified as a historical monument by order of 25 July 1902.
The fountain was built in the 15th century. In 1588 it was transferred to the top of the square and became ornamental. It was renovated in 1743 by sculptor Yves Corlay.
Composed of three basins, the first in granite, the other two in lead, the fountain is surmounted by a statue in which some recognize a Florentine Virgin and others the Celtic goddess Anna. This fountain became one of the symbols of the city of Guingamp. It serves as a gathering place for popular events marking Guingampese life.
In 2003, the fountain was renovated and equipped with a closed circuit feeding system.
