fontaine du Fellah
The Fountain du Fellah is a fountain located at 42 rue de Sèvres in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, right next to the entrance to the Vaneau metro. This is a fine example of the neo-Egyptian style, in vogue in France after the Egypt campaign of Bonaparte. His name evokes the Egyptian fellah, but the statue would rather represent Antinous, the favorite of Emperor Hadrian. It is very clearly inspired by the ancient statue discovered in 1739 in the magnificent villa of the emperor, near Tivoli, and preserved at the Vatican Museum.
