fort d'Uxegney
Uxegney Fort, briefly renamed fort Roussel in 1887, is a fortification part of the Epinal stronghold, located northeast of Uxegney (Vosges). It was built from 1882 to 1884 and then modernized until 1914. It is an example of the fortification of eastern France of type Séré de Rivières, still equipped with its armament, forming an integral part of the stronghold of Épinal.
One can see the only example in working order of a galopin eclipse turret (invented in 1889 by Alfred Galopin) with a 155 mm cannon, gigantic 250-ton mechanics dating from 1907. Also a large number of equipments are still in place (kitchen, vaulted, battled artillery pieces...), their exceptional state of conservation justified the inclusion of the site on the inventory of historical monuments.
