Founded in 1984, the I.C.A. (Institution of Audiovisual Communication) is today the audiovisual memory of French Polynesia. Since 2005, the Institute has been a member of the International Federation of Television Archives (FIATT).
The establishment's premises are located on Putiaoro Hill of the Mission district in Papeete on the island of Tahiti. The rich ICA fund of about 25,000 references consists of documentaries, institutional videograms, numerous television programmes, several hundred hours of images devoted to Polynesia. Thanks to the acquisitions of documents from Europe, the United States, Australia and the voluntary deposits of Polynesians, the ICA is gradually becoming a unique collection of audiovisual archives dedicated to Polynesia from the origins of cinema to the present day.
