Animal theme park
The Pal (stylished in capitals) is a French amusement park and zoological park located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, in the Allier department, in the commune of Saint-Pourçain-sur-Besbre. Created in 1973, it is first a zoological park, and then an amusement park in 1981. On 50 hectares, it features 31 attractions and more than 1,000 animals, as well as several animal entertainment and shows.
It is led by Charles Bennet, the grandson of André Charbonnier, founder of the park. He succeeded his father, Arnaud, who had been park manager since 1989. A permanent member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums, he is committed to ex situ conservation by participating in European programmes for endangered species (EEP).
It also supports in situ conservation associations working on the ground through its dedicated association, the Pal Nature Foundation. The leisure site offers a hotel offer with a 60-room hotel called Le Pal Savana Reserve and 31 lodges on stilts, inspired by the African reserve camps.
