Maison Vauban

About

The house Vauban is located in France in the commune of Saint-Léger-Vauban, in the department of Yonne in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Created in 1996, it is the 3rd theme house of the Morvan ecomuseum network, dedicated to the Maréchal de Vauban native of the village.

Presentation: In 1980 the association Les Amis de la Maison Vauban was founded. She first installed an exhibition in an old classroom in Saint-Léger. In 1996, the present museum was installed in the old house of architect and sculptor Marc Hénard (1919-1992) located on the village square, opposite the statue of Vauban. The museum has a shop and four rooms, including a projection room that features a DVD about Vauban's life and work.

The Vauban house reveals the many facets of Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban: the military engineer and architect, the expert in Poliorcetics, the urbanist, the hydraulic engineer, the essayist (especially with the printing without permission of La Dîme royale)...
