About

The Wall of Names is a memorial located on the parvis of the Shoah Memorial in the Marais district in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. The Wall of Names is a set of three stone walls of Jerusalem on which are engraved the names of 76,000 Jews, including 11,400 children, "deported from France as part of the Nazi plan for the extermination of European Judaism with the collaboration of the government of Vichy". Most of the people whose names appear on these walls were murdered between 1942 and 1944 in Auschwitz-Birkenau, the others in the camps of Sobibor, Majdanek and for a convoy in the Baltic States.

The victims are listed in alphabetical order by year of deportation. The names of the Jews who, although victims of the Nazi genocide in France, were not deported, are not on the Wall of Names. This monument was commissioned by architects François Pin and Jean-Pierre Jouve (1926-2019), honorary architect of historical monuments, who led the first phase of the project.
