About

The Albert Schweitzer Museum is an Alsatian museum dedicated to Dr Albert Schweitzer's hospital work in Lambaréné (Gabon) from 1913 to the present day. It is located in Kaysersberg (High-Rhin), hometown of the doctor, now paired with Lambarene.

History of the museum: The house – a former Protestant presbytery – where Albert Schweitzer was born on January 14, 1875, is the starting point for this museum project, which was implemented in 1981. Work has been done to link this building to the adjoining house and to develop adjacent exhibition rooms.

Collections: The photographs and documents presented to the public describe the evolution and expansion of the hospital buildings in Lambaréné. They are complemented by personal memories and Gabonese handicrafts: masks, musical instruments, canoes from the hospital of Lambaréné, ebony objects made from leprosy, etc.
