musée Boucher-de-Perthes
The Boucher-de-Perthes Museum is the museum of archaeology and fine arts in the city of Abbeville, in the department of the Somme, located 24 Gontier-Patin Street, in the city centre. It is labeled "Museum of France".
Fusion of two museums: The Boucher-de-Perthes Museum is the result of the merger of two 19th-century Abbevilloian collections: the Museum of Abbeville and Ponthieu founded in 1833 at the initiative of the Société d'emulation d'Abbeville and the former Boucher-de-Perthes Museum, which housed the personal and family collections of Jacques Boucher de Perthes, the "father of Prehistory", its founder. Originally, Jacques Boucher de Perthes' private collections were gathered in his private hotel called Chepy Hotel. The entire building was completely destroyed during the bombing of the city by the German army on 20 May 1940 during the Battle of France at the beginning of the Second World War. The city's collections were presented in the museum of Abbeville and Ponthieu in the former Fouques d'Emonville mansion. This building now houses the municipal library.
