musée archéologique Saint-Pierre de Vienne
The Saint-Pierre Archaeological Museum, labeled Musée de France, is a French lapidary museum located in the former Saint-Pierre church of Vienna (Isère), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, near Lyon. It is one of the five museums or site of the city of Vienna with the Museum of Fine Arts and Archaeology, the Museum of Textile Industry, the Ancient Theatre of Vienna and the cloister Saint-André-le-Bas. This ancient church, classified as a historical monument in 1862, is one of the oldest in France and one of the few European monuments of late antiquity still in elevation: it was founded at the end of the fifth century. Dedicated to the apostles Peter and Paul, it is one of the few basilicas of late antiquity in elevation. Its basilical plane and apse with the use of two barrels of Roman columns keep the spirit of the original construction.
The museum has been closed for renovation since October 31, 2022 and at least until the end of 2027.
