The Villeneuve-d'Ascq outdoor museum aims to preserve and enhance the regional rural architectural heritage (Hauts-de-France). Located in the heart of Val de Marque, the open-air museum in Villeneuve d'Ascq offers to discover the richness of rural architecture of the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. It brings together some 20 buildings saved from demolition and rebuilt on the museum site to serve as heritage witnesses of those past times.

Many artisans work there, maintaining a rare and precious heritage: that of traditional trades. The museum also hosts a beautiful herd of domestic animals of regional breeds. The association "Monique Content, conservation of rural heritage" is at the origin of the museum.

The MEL also manages, maintains and welcomes the public.
