The Tulle cloister is a religious complex adjacent to the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Tulle. Until 2022, the site was designated as the Museum of the Tulle Cloister or the Municipal Museum of Art and History of Tulle Country because it housed collections reflecting the discoveries and history of Tulle and its region. On 3 January 2022, the Cloister's Museum closed its doors to prepare the opening of the new museum equipment of the city, the City of Accordion and Heritage of Tulle, inaugurated in April 2024. The cloister remains accessible for the visit but no longer presents collections.
Site: Legendary origins date back to the fourth century and attribute the foundation of the first monastery to Saint Martin de Tours. The certain historical origin is linked to Saint Calmine de Laguenne in the VIth-VIIth centuries. The site also benefited from the patronage of Clement VI the Magnificent[ref. necessary], pope of Avignon from the region.
