musée départemental d'Histoire de la Résistance et de la Déportation de l'Ain et du Haut-Jura
The Departmental Museum of Resistance and Deportation of the Ain, located in the former prison in the heart of Nantua (Ain), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, evokes the strategic role of the department and of one of the most important maquis of France. Opened since 1985 and renovated in 2017, it offers, thanks to an immersive scenography, an updated reading of the events of the Second World War through the experience of the Aindians. The various themes are illustrated by an exceptional collection originally gathered by protagonists of the time: weapons, everyday objects, uniforms... Finally, testimonies, archive films and re-enactments take the visitor to the heart of history.
