About

The Historical Museum and Erckmann-Chatrian is a museum located in the premises of the Town Hall, Place d'Armes in Phalsbourg, a city with a military and literary past. The museum presents weapons from the period of Louis XIV to the 2nd D.B.; uniforms from the 19th and 20th centuries until 1945; as well as objects presenting popular arts and traditions. The museum also exhibits editions of works by Émile Erckmann and Alexandre Chatrian, two popular 19th-century local writers.

Since 2007, the museum has hosted in its collections the circumcision bench of the Phalsbourg Synagogue. Completely restored, this room bears witness to the large Jewish community present in Phalsbourg in the 18th and 19th centuries. The museum is equipped with a discovery kit for the blind and visually impaired.

Audio equipment, reading and imageries make it possible to discover the museum other than with the eyes with so much information. The "Historical, military and Erckmann-Chatrian Museum of Phalsbourg" is one of 10 networked museums in the Vosges du Nord Regional Natural Park.
