About

The oppidum Saint-Marcel, located in the commune of the Pègue, in the Drôme Provencale, is an emporion (Greek commercial counter) that was in connection with Massalia from the sixth century B.C.E. until the year 49. It is remarkable for its various pseudo-ionian pottery that have highlighted an important wine trade between the Phoceans and the Voconces. The oppidium has been classified as historical monuments since 2 December 1993.
