The Berbie Palace is a former urban castle of the bishops of Albi, built in 1228 and 1308, which stands in the French commune of Albi in southwestern France. Built during the second half of the 13th century, under the episcopate of three successive bishops, its construction took about fifty years. Voulu as residence of prestige by Durand de Beaucaire, he became fortress under Bernard II and Bernard III, facing the hostility of the Albige population, both economically and religiously, with the Cathar heresy.
Subsequently, it was remodeled several times by the city's bishops between the 16th and 18th centuries, gaining in comfort without completely losing the appearance of austere fortress. It was classified as a historic monument in 1862 for construction and in 1965 for isolated interior elements: ceilings, fireplace, woodwork... Since 2010, it has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site by its membership in the medieval architectural complex of the Episcopal City of Albi.
