The Branféré Animal and Botanical Park is a French zoological and botanical park located in Guerno.
Origin: The castle was built in 1848 and became the property of the Jourde family in 1884. Paul Jourde's grandfather, Casimir Jourde, bought it from the Marquis De Barbeyrac of Saint-Maurice. In 1932, Paul Jourde inherited the estate. In 1935 he married Hélène Castori, an Italian aristocrat. After a trip to India, Elena and Paul Jourde discovered the principle of semi-freedom parks.
Leg: The park was left by Paul Jourde's widow to the Fondation de France in 1988.
New direction: Frédéric Jayot took over the park in 1999. The aim is to revive the number of entries. In 2001, the Fondation de France released funds to restore the castle in poor condition. In 2002, shows with birds were launched. In 2004, the park opened a nature school, a centre for environmental and sustainable development education for biodiversity protection.
