About

The Saint-Amand lock bridge is a lock bridge crossing the Augustinian Canal in Verdun, in the department of Meuse in the Grand Est region of France. Marking the junction between the Saint-Vanne Canal and the Augustinian Canal, the lock bridge was built from 1680 to 1685 according to the plans of Vauban. With two other works now missing, it formed a defensive system that allowed to flood the area upstream of Verdun, making any attack impossible by the south. It is known as the only lock bridge in France to still own its manoeuvring building with all its mechanism.
