Railway bridge
pont des Pierres
The bridge of the Stones spans the Valserine between Comfort and Montanges in the Ain. Built in 1910 for the Bellegarde tram in Chezery, it was the highest masonry bridge in the world when it was built with 65 m under vault. It became a road bridge when the tram was abolished in 1937 and ensured the continuity of RD 14a.
Dynamity during the war in 1944, the bridge was rebuilt in concrete in 1954. The bridge is part of a Natura 2000 site and a regional nature reserve for the EDF gallery located in the cliff under the bridge.
