Vertical-lift bridge
pont levant de la rue de Crimée
The rising bridge of the street of Crimea is a rising bridge located at the intersection of the basin of the Villette and the canal of Ourcq, in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. It allows the Crimean street to cross the canal, and connects the Oise wharf, on the north-west side of the canal, to the Marne wharf, on the south-east side of the canal. The last rising bridge of the capital was put into service in 1885, and there were still nearly 9,000 manoeuvres every year. When the rising bridge is in action to allow a boat to pass, pedestrians can cross next to a fixed and elevated bridge: the bridge of the Crimean street.
