About

The Port-Musée de Douarnenez, Finistère (France), inaugurated in May 1993, is located in Port-Rhu, near Tristan Island, on the former ria of Pouldavid which separates Douarnenez and the Tréboul district. The museum is dedicated to maritime history and evolution, the know-how of sailors and carpenters, daily, the work of women and men in relation to the sea. The Port-Museum owns more than 280 boats, some 100 of which are put back in its reserves.

Vessels can be visited afloat from pontoons and academies. The museum makes the originality of the Port-Museum, it faces the "barrier of its conservation" for the boats visible in the ria. Some could not be kept in good condition for financial reasons and were delisted from the museum.

In addition, its collection consists of about ten thousand objects related to the maritime worlds, a space dedicated to canneries and in particular those of sardines, productions of photographers artists, films about the maritime world.
