The English Gate is a town gate located in Naucelle, Aveyron, France.
The English gate is an ancient medieval fortified stone gate, one of the remains of the ancient fortifications of the city of Naucelle. It consists of a vaulted arcade allowing passage between the upper city and the outside neighborhoods. The work features masonries characteristic of the medieval defensive architecture of the Rouergue.
Location: The town gate is located in the commune of Naucelle, in the French department of Aveyron.
The English gate was part of Naucelle's medieval defensive system, designed to protect the city during the Middle Ages. Like many fortified gates of the region, it controlled access to the agglomeration and participated in the defensive organization of the city. The building is preserved as a witness to the local architectural heritage and has been listed as historic monuments since 1978.
