About

The synagogue of Cavaillon, located on Rue Hebraique, one of the oldest French synagogues, was built by the Comtadin Jews of Cavaillon at the end of the Middle Ages in the 15th century, the Jews having obtained permission from the bishop of Cavaillon to build it in 1494. The reconstruction of the 18th century, which was decided by the community in the fall of 1771, may be about the substructures of this first building. The synagogue was rebuilt between 1772 and 1774, as evidenced by all the price-facts and exits that made it possible to follow the exact stages of its reconstruction.
