The Saint-Georges temple in Montbéliard is a 17th-century Evangelical Lutheran church in Montbéliard, Doubs. The temple is dedicated to St.Georges and has been listed for historical monuments since October 2, 1986. Disacralized it currently serves as a conference centre.

Temple Saint-Georges

History: The second Protestant religious building in Montbéliard, the temple Saint-Georges is built to replace the lack of a place in the Temple Saint-Martin de Montbéliard following the influx of Huguenot refugees (wars of religion in France) and to satisfy the new inhabitants of the "Neuve Ville" neighbourhood (present-day Faubourg de Besançon). Decided by Prince Georges II of Württemberg, its construction began in 1674, but was interrupted in 1676 by the Marshal of Luxembourg entrusted by King Louis XIV to occupy the principality of Montbéliard and to destroy the fortifications including those of the citadel of Montbéliard (war of Holland 1672 to 1678). During this period, the temple serves as a forage reserve. The building bequeathed by Prince Eberhard-Louis de Württemberg to the bourgeois of the city in 1733, consecrated on 29 December 1739, was disused in 1949. After serving for a while...
