History: According to the historical tradition the castle was built in the 12th century by the Count of Aure Sanche-Garcia at the same time as the castles of Tramezaïgues (canton of Vielle-Aure) and Labarthe. In its present state the castle is dating from the thirteenth century. From 1608 it served as a prison for the villages of the Aure valley with the exception of the high valley served by the prison castle of Tramezaïgues. The inhabitants of Cadéac and other villages must take turns there if necessary, to ensure the guard and watch. In 1626 the castle was inspected by the Vice-Senechal of Armagnac. Consolidated in 1707, it was decommissioned at the end of the 18th century. In 1792 his materials were used for the construction of a hospital in Arreau.
