Maubeuge Zoo is a zoological park located in the centre of the city of Maubeuge, in the department of northern France. Opened in 1955, it covers an area of 7 hectares with more than 300 animals of more than 70 species. Today, it is for its particular setting, at the foot of the ramparts built by Vauban in the seventeenth century, as well as for the species present there - some are not only rare in nature but also in captivity - among them: panther of Sri Lanka, Asian lion, Sumatra tiger, amphibious hippopotamus, eye bear, etc.
which it is best known. Each continent is represented. The zoo is a permanent member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA) and therefore participates in European programmes for endangered species (EEP).
In this sense, it is therefore involved in ex situ conservation. He is also a member of the French Association of Zoological Parks (AFdPZ).
