Saint-Georges de Saint-Jeoire is a Catholic church located in the commune of Saint-Jeoire-en-Faucigny, Haute-Savoie. The church, as in Saint-Jeoire-Prieuré (Department of Savoy), is placed under the patronage of Saint Georges. Jeoire's from Georgius.
History: A first rectangular church was built in the Middle Ages, and changed over time. His bell tower, threatening to collapse, was shot down in 1739. Following a decision of the municipal council of 10 February 1740, the construction of a new bell tower was undertaken and finished in 1759. The occupation of Savoy by French troops from 1792 to 1815 left the church in a deplorable state. The building was desecrated and degraded, including the altar, woodwork and roof, to the point that the diocese of Annecy would consider banning worship. The altar was rebuilt before 1837, and expansion work was planned. However, these would make the already disparate building irregular and unaesthetic; In 1855 it was decided to destroy this church to build a new one.
