Saint-Hilaire Church is a church located in Asnières-sur-Vègre, Sarthe department.

History: The tradition makes the church one of the oldest in Maine. It was founded by St.Thuribe, a companion of St.Julien, in the fourth century. Between 623 and 654, a lord of Sablé donated the land of Asnières to the Canons of Le Mans. Between 1067 and 1068, the Canons of Mans bought the church from a certain Solomon, the son of Geoffroy. The nave and choir were built around the middle of the eleventh century while the bell tower dates from the twelfth century. The construction of the murals took place from the 12th to the 16th century. They were discovered in 1951.

Protection: The building and its murals have been classified as historical monuments since 27 July 1979.

Description: The church of Asnières-sur-Vègre consists of a Romanesque nave of rectangular shape and pierced by two windows on each side. The Romanesque choir, built at the same time as the nave, was replaced by a Gothic choir in the 14th century.
