The Collège Saint-Laurent d'Auzon is a former Benedictine collegiate of Romanesque architecture of Languedoc influence built at the height of auvergnat Romanesque art overlooking the fortified village of Auzon (Haute-Loire). It has, like the Basilica of Saint-Julien de Brioude, a south porch, called aganivelle, in Romanesque architecture. The church of Auzon has been classified as historical monuments since 11 August 1906. Many objects are referenced in the Palissy database (see related records).
Description: This 12th century Romanesque building is built on a very simple plane. It is made up of four spans without sides. The choir, vaulted in cul-de-four, rests on a wall with three apsidioles integrating the non-raying chapels. Circular inside, however, it presents outside a five-sided bedside. A typical architecture of the region, the archvolts of the archatures that decorate each side are decorated with sculptures and modillons on the cornice.
