About

The Church of St.Martin in Escaro was once Romanesque. Located in Escaro, in the French department of the Pyrénées-Orientales, it was destroyed in the first half of the 20th century to be rebuilt a little further, due to collapses due to mining. More precisely located on the upstream part of the town of Escaro, the church later dating from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries was established on the outcrops of the iron ore deposit known as "Water".

The first ore reconnaissance work began in 1924. In 1946, the church was destroyed by land movements due to the exploitation of the North Escaro concession, resulting in the collapse of the vault and part of the walls of the east, north and south facades.
