église Saint-Martin de Moustey
The church of Saint Martin is located in the commune of Moustey, in the French department of Landes. It has been listed as a historical monument since 18 June 1973.
Presentation: Saint Martin's Romanesque church, built in garluche and equipped with a bell tower-wall, is located in the immediate vicinity of another church, the Notre-Dame de Moustey church. The two churches were once in one cemetery, which led Dom Biron, quoted by Abbé Baurein, to say:
"I ran so much, so much traveled, I never saw two churches in one cemetery. »
This particular situation is explained by the construction, probably one century at the latest after the construction of the parish church Saint-Martin, of a second place of worship, attached to a leprosy intended to welcome pilgrims on the way to Tours du chemin de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle. The church dedicated to Saint Martin is the largest of both. In the form of a cross, it serves parish worship. One of his modern stained glass windows depicts St James as a pilgrim. The south wall of the church has a murated door called "gate of the clots", a name given to a caste excluded from society.
