About

Saint-Nicolas Church is a Catholic church located on the territory of the commune of Bonne in the French department of Haute-Savoie and in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

History: The first church, dedicated to Saint Peter, is built outside the village, at the bottom of the hill. The new city will be built on the elevation in the thirteenth century by the Sieur de Faucigny, Aymon II. With the construction of the new church of St Nicholas, the building is only used for burials. In the 16th century, the building seemed ruined. The second church was built in the 15th century, on the site of the old chapel of the castle of Bonne (XII century), in the hamlet of Haute-Bonne. The ensemble has retained elements of primitive architecture, including the choir dating from the first half of the 13th century, with lamp-like asses on the pillars. The nave was reportedly restored and enlarged in 1581. During the 1768 pastoral visit of the Bishop of Geneva, Bishop Jean-Pierre Biord ordered the renovation of the chapels. Restoration of the nave takes place between the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
