About

Saint-Nicolas Church is a church located in Fossé, France. This church was partially destroyed during World War II. In 1954, the Coopérative de reconstruction des églises désolées de France commissioned three young artists to rebuild and decorate the church: Pierre Székely, painter and sculptor, his wife Vera, ceramist, and André Borderie.

The layout and decoration surprise some of the inhabitants, and provoke a controversy beyond the village, with supporters and detractors. A significant part of the furniture was removed in the late 1950s. The church is now listed as a historical monument.
