collégiale Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Pantaléon de Turenne
The Collège Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Pantaléon is a Catholic church located in Turenne, France.
Location: The church is located in the French department of Corrèze, in the commune of Turenne.
History: In the Middle Ages there were two churches in Turenne. One, dedicated to Saint Pantaléon, depended on the priory of Souillac, the other was dedicated to Saint Paul. The lords of Turenne founded the priory of Saint Paul and submitted it to the monastery of Saint Peter in Uzerche, as the cartular of Uzerche recalls. This donation was made by Viscount Raymond I of Turenne and Geoffroy of Salignac who renounced their possible rights over this priory. The donation was accepted by the bishop of Limoges Eustorge de Scorailles. The monks of Souillac, who owned the Saint-Pantaléon Mother Church, considering that they had been injured by this donation, settled in Saint Paul's Priory. The monks of Uzerche protested this usurpation to the Archbishop. The cartular of Uzerche indicates for the year 1144, that the archbishop gave the priory Saint Paul to the abbot of Aurillac on which the monks of Souillac depended. The abbot of Uzerche would receive compensation...
