Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul Church is a Roman Catholic church built in the 19th century on the market square of Wazemmes in Lille. Under the church is a crypt that houses a weapons room hosting several local fencing clubs. This site is served by Gambetta Metro Station.
Previous churches: The present church succeeds two earlier buildings of the parish of Wazemmes, the first mentioned in the Charter of Baudouin V of 1066. The first church composed of three naves, repaired several times, was located on the present Place Philippe-de-Girard. This church was sold as a national property in 1799 and destroyed in 1802.
Current Church: A new church was built from 1821 to 1824 rue de l'Evêque (currently rue du Marché) in the centre of the commune at equal distance from the suburbs of La Barre and Paris (future Moulins-Lille). The present church was built shortly before the integration of Wazemmes into the city of Lille in 1858 on a given land with that of the square by former mayor François Collette in 1853.
