Location: The Church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption, a Romanesque church built in the 11th century, is situated on a promontory that also encompasses the main square of the village and some old houses.
General: According to Abbés Therme and Étienne Bethe, parish priests at Lachapelle-Graillouse in the first half of the 20th century, a church and therefore a parish existed here in the year 938. Indeed, on that date, Ithier, from the house of Mercœur d'Auvergne, gives to his son Gauthier as canon of Saint-Julien-de-Brioude several properties in Auvergne with among others, the church of Lachapelle-Graillouse. The fourth abbot of Cluny, Saint Odilon de Mercœur (c. 962 - 1048), studied and trained in religious life at Gauthier de Mercœur, who was his cousin. Upon Gauthier's death, the property of Ithier de Mercœur was passed on to his nephew Odilon. Then two versions of the history of the church are known:
