About

The church of the Assumption of Our Lady, known as the chapel of Pontaillac, is a former branch of the parish church of Vaux-sur-Mer, Charente-Maritime. Built on the northern cliff of Pontaillac but on the territory of the municipality of Vaux-sur-Mer, it was the first place of worship in the district of Pontaillac. It quickly became unsuitable for the needs of worship, both in terms of its capacity to receive it and its outlying situation, and was replaced by a new sanctuary twenty years after its construction.
