tombe d'Adolphe Thiers
The tomb of Adolphe Thiers is a funeral chapel located in the 55th division of the Père-Lachaise cemetery in Paris, in which the politician and historian Adolphe Thiers rests. Originally buried in the Dosne-Thiers chapel in the 30th division of the cemetery, his remains joined his current grave on the tenth anniversary of his death. The immense tomb was erected by his widow and sister-in-law near the cemetery chapel.
The family architect, Alfred-Philibert Aldrophe, is responsible for drawing up the plans; Henri Chapu and Antonin Mercié are in charge of sculptures and Ferdinand Barbedienne of bronze parts. The funerary monument, like any monument built before 1900 in the romantic part of the cemetery, is inscribed historical monument by order of 21 March 1983. On the occasion of the centenary of the Commune in 1971, the monument was attacked.
