Notre-Dame-du-Désert Church is a chapel in the commune of Saint-Victor-et-Melvieu, in the French department of Aveyron, in the Occitan region. It is a monument referenced by the Grand Causses Regional Natural Park. The chapel was rebuilt at the end of the 19th century and at the very beginning of the 20th century.
It has been dependent on the diocese of Rodez since 1822. The church of Notre-Dame-du-Désert is emblematic of the movement of church construction throughout France, unsurpassed by its intensity throughout the 19th century. This movement, largely driven by a clergy anxious to respond to the pressure of the population, still deeply marks the landscapes of France, especially rural landscapes.
Here, Abbé Rolland, appointed parish priest of Melvieu in 1896, receives from Monsignor Bourret, bishop of Rodez, the order: "you have in your parish a chapel of devotion, it falls into ruins, you will lift it up".
