The Castrum de Pestillac (or Pestilhac) is a fortified complex located in the Lot department in the commune of Montcabrier.

History: The Castrum de Pestilhac, located on the borders of Quercy and Périgord overlooking the valley of the Thèze and facing the bastide of Montcabrier, was the residence of the Barons de la Châtaigneraie. There are still several tower houses around the castral plateau, which are probably knight houses as well as two adjoining churches or chapels. The seigneury of Pestilhac was very important in the Middle Ages. It included the communes of Montcabrier, Cassagnes, Saint-Martin-le-Redon, Duravel, Soturac and part of Saint-Caprais, Frayssinet-le-Gélat and Puy-l'Évêque. The bastides of Montcabrier and Villefranche-du-Périgord were built on its territory. The Pestilhac family has been known since 1030 when it signed as a witness the charter of donation of the church of Pescadoires to the abbey of Moissac. She was linked to the family of Gourdon when Gausbert and Seguin of Pestilhac gave the church Saint-Hilarion de Duravel to the abbey of Moissac in 1055 with the agreement of their suzerans, Gausbert de Gourdon, secular abbot, and...
