About

The Viaduct des Fades is a French railway viaduct launched above the Sioule, between the municipalities of Sauret-Besserve and Ancizes-Comps, in the department of Puy-de-Dôme. Its two traditional masonry batteries, which peak at more than 92 meters, still hold the world record for the height of their category. It still remains the highest railway bridge in France.

This work of art leads to the railway line from Lapeyrouse to Volvic (section of the relationship of Clermont-Ferrand to Montluçon-Ville, via the plateau des Combrailles), whose operation was suspended on 9 December 2007 by the SNCF regional management for safety reasons, its poor condition resulting from its lack of maintenance. According to its statehood, today it is a neutralized line.
