église Saint-Étienne-du-Mont
The church Saint-Étienne-du-Mont is located on the Sainte-Geneviève mountain in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, close to the Henri-IV High School and the Panthéon. Replacing a 13th-century building, it was built from the end of the 15th century, serving as a parish for the inhabitants of the area around Sainte-Geneviève Abbey. The site, which began with the bedside and bell tower in 1491, was completed by the façade in 1624.
In 1790 it was one of 51 urban parishes in the diocese of Paris. After being briefly transformed into a branch temple of the Piété during the French Revolution, she was returned to her position as a parish church in 1801 and has not changed her assignment since then. The shawl of Saint Geneviève, empty of its relics since the French Revolution, is preserved there.
The church also houses an organ whose origins and buffet date back to the 1630s. It is the last Parisian church where one can still see a young man. It is classified as historical monuments by the list of 1862.
