chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Bellevue de Tavernes
The Chapel Notre-Dame-de-Bellevue and Consolation is located in Tavernes, in the French department of Var in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
The chapel is located at the top of a hill to the north and about three kilometers from the centre of the village of Tavernes. The place is isolated in an oak forest at 620 meters altitude. It is accessible at the end of the journey by a stony path (about 1 km) marked by oratorys and Latin Crosses, one of which represents the iron effigy of Sainte Marie enchassed in its center. The chapel is backed by a rock. By bypassing the latter, we discover a rope connected to the bell on the roof of the chapel that the walker or the pilgrim can operate if he wishes. On the right and behind a high dry stone wall stands a building built 1 year after the chapel and financed by the Conte de Carcès, Jehan de Ponteves, for the use of Dominicans of the Royal Convent of Saint-Maximin then abandoned to the benefit of hermits in exchange for the maintenance of the building, the preservation of objects of worship and the reception of pilgrims.
