About

The chapel of Saint-Evy is located in the enclave of the commune of Saint-Jean-Trolimon, a commune situated in the region of Bigouden between Pont-l'Abbé, Plomeur and Plonéour-Lanvern. Placed at the bottom of a slope that dives towards a marsh and its reed, fed by the river that flows into the pond of Saint-Vio below, the chapel of Saint-Evy is the example of these sanctuaries of devotion so numerous in Lower Britain. Opulent or modest, they glaze the territory of thousands of steeples.

A focal point of a dispersed habitat, the chapels often served as secondary parish churches, with his parish priest, parish priest, and cemetery. Saint-Evy was endowed with it until the 18th century, place of worship and assembly of a very particular territory, dependent on Saint-Jean-Trolimon but separated by the commune of Ploneour. This enclave, inherited from the Middle Ages (formerly Gorre-Beuzec) and which did not disappear with the Revolution, was formed as a quasi-independent community, because of its distance from the town, the inhabitants first recognizing themselves by their belonging to the same truce or freshness before being left by the parish.
